Genetics

Isn’t it strange that all of the recessive genes are more attractive than the dominant?

Think about it: blonde hair, blue eyes. The two most obvious recessive genes. These were the traits admired by the Nazis. There was an entire war over that! And most guys imagine dating a blonde girl with blue eyes and a red car. Isn’t that odd?

Is it because of the rarity, or is it just God’s way of ensuring that the recessive genes aren’t bred out purposely?

Goodbyes

Worst times ever. You leave things unsaid, say things you might not really mean, and cry. A lot. So, what’s good in this?

Nothing.

Challenge: Next time someone is saying goodbye, don’t say you’ll miss them unless you mean it. Tell them that thing you did when you were young that they might not forgive you for. And tell them if ou really, truly love them.

Relationships

They may sound like a fun thing, a natural thing, but really, it’s all about practicality. It’s useful. Whether your friends are useful as listeners, or unbiased critics, or as reinforcements, they are useful to us. That’s why we have them. Sure, you could give the sentimental reasons like being there for each other and loving one another despite knowing the worst side of you, but really, it’s just mutual practicality.

Freedom

“America is the home of the free.” That’s what they tell us, and it seems like a fact, but are we truly free? Of course not. I mean, look at jails… if we were free (by definition) we could do whatever we wanted,  without restraint. But, what if you wanted to kill the president? They’d shoot you down in an instant. That’s not freedom.

Is that wrong? No. Only because we humans have a tendency to be imperfect by our own standards. If we no one wanted anything that was wrong or bad, then we could be free. It just doesn’t work like that.

Sheltered

I am such a spoiled brat. I am so beyond sheltered. I have it better than 98% of the world. The worst thing that ever happened to me was that someone else lost their life. My father. What does that say about me? It means that I am lucky. I am so lucky. I can hardly imagine what life would be like if wasn’t one of the lucky ones. Could I handle true hunger? True hardship?

No. I couldn’t.

I am not strong, or brave, or even, really, intelligent enough to handle it. I am a sheltered, spoiled brat. So ask yourself; would I be able to handle it? Answer honestly. Tell me what you think.

Trust

We are all very trusting people. I mean, at any time, someone could just make a suicidal turn in a car on the highway and kill dozens of people, or a pilot could randomly decide  to plunge from 30 000 feet in a death spiral for the hell of it, or an officer could open fire on civilians downtown. Yet, we choose to trust in our fellow humans to preserve life and not be stupid, suicidal maniacs.

Why? It’s because we’re stupid, suicidal maniacs.

Challenge: talk to the person flying the next plane you’re on. Look the next police man you see in the eye and smile and say “Thank you.” See if they reply. Do a double take on that new guy in school; check for scars or other less noticeable giveaways. No, it’s not paranoia. It’s caution.

Believing II

Maybe I was wrong. Maybe believing and respecting is great, and I’m all for it so long as everyone agrees, but it doesn’t work that way. Life isn’t black and white. If we all agree, then nothing can go wrong, right? Whether that’s true or not, there always has to be that one group that refuses to conform. Then, its a genocide waiting to happen. Naturally, the majority will win. Always. No matter how good the strategy is, the majority’s resources will ultimately win the war. The only question is how much has to change during the battles…

Believing

So, I know religion is a touchy subject for many people. But why? I get that you can’t agree with someone of a different belief, but can’t you acknowledge what the believe as their choice and then move on, whether it aligns with your views or not? It’s wierd the way people are; everyone wants to fit in. The second someone is different than them, the person is shut down. Overruled. Left out. Ignored. Abandoned. And yes, sued. Really, people? Is that how we really are? So narrow-minded, so ignorant?

Today I challenge you to be more open about your beliefs. See how many friends you still have at the end of the day… They, readers, are either good people to the core or believe in the same things. Or both.

Welcome...

Have you ever really thought about things far away from you? How far is far anyway? Out of state? Country? Continent? Go farther. How about out of this world? Maybe we aren't that in-control after all. Maybe what exists 'out there' is too much for us humans to even begin to comprehend. What would you do? Would you still try to figure it out, or would you just shrug it off as an impossible task? Explore your true self by asking yourself the tough questions, and being honest. Start here. Start now.
