They may sound like a fun thing, a natural thing, but really, it’s all about practicality. It’s useful. Whether your friends are useful as listeners, or unbiased critics, or as reinforcements, they are useful to us. That’s why we have them. Sure, you could give the sentimental reasons like being there for each other and loving one another despite knowing the worst side of you, but really, it’s just mutual practicality.
